For the initial consultation, many people ask what they need to provide ahead of time, and are surprised that it’s really very little, if anything. I don’t even need copies of all the bills. Instead, I just need a rough idea for the first time we talk.
In general, I like to just talk. I want to understand your situation, a little about you, your fears and goals, and develop a “game plan” to go from there. You do not need to pay anything, as all initial consultations are free. Even if you decide to get the ball rolling, you can start for as little as a $100 retainer, and it doesn’t have to be that same day.
What would be helpful for you to be familiar with because I’ll ask you some questions about these things are:
- An approximate idea of the amount and types of debts you have
- A pretty good idea of your income, from all sources
- What things you own
- For vehicles, it helps if you know the year, make, model, approximate mileage, etc. Sometimes it helps if I can look up the Kelly Blue Book value while we talk.
